The semester abroad is almost over and there is still so much to explore here. If you want to know what it’s like to study here, this blog will take you on a campus tour of the University of Greenwich.
The University of Greenwich is surrounded by historical landmarks as well as Greenwich Park and many cafes, bars and restaurants. The Greenwich Campus is a World Heritage Site located in the heart of Greenwich in south-east London, right there where time is counted. The area has a vibrant atmosphere but it is still away from the hustle and bustle of the city, making it an ideal place to learn and live. Greenwich itself is a nice little town where you can walk to everything, but still has many options to get to the city quickly.
The University of Greenwich is a really beautiful place to spend a semester abroad. The British feeling is given by the maritime faculty building from 1890 with names like „Queen Anne“, „Queen Mary Court“ or „King William Court“ where the lectures and tutorials take place. On the territory of the University are situated the own chapel and the Painted Hall, which shows brilliant artworks.
Many sites around the campus have been used as film sets, such as „Les Misérables“, „Four Weddings“, „Pirates of the Caribbean“ and lately for „Cruella“ with Emma Stone in the main role.
The Dreadnought Building is a central hub for the Greenwich Campus, with further includes teaching and social spaces. There are two coffee shops, the cafeteria, a gym and underneath a bar location for events. Never forget your Student ID here for cool discounts on food and drinks.
Stockwell Street Building opened in 2014 and is home to the campus library, film and TV studios, and state-of-the-art editing suites. The library offers a great selection of specialist literature for each faculty and offers plenty of modern spaces to learn and work. The staff is also available to assist you with any questions you might have.
Also around the campus there are many places worth seeing, like the Greenwich park which leads to the Observertoy and the Meridian Line. The Maritime Museum and the Painted Hall are just a few minutes walk away. The Campus is located directly at the Thames where you can take a walk, take a ferry into the city or you can enjoy a breathtaking view over the River Thames to the City of London.
The good thing about the semester abroad is that you can experience the end of the summer until Christmas time. In all seasons you can have a great time here in London. Only a few minutes away from the campus is the Greenwich Market. This covered market is right in the center of maritime Greenwich and has numerous food stands at affordable prices in a great atmosphere. There is also the Greenwich vintage market, small fine shops, pubs and cafes that invite you to linger.
From the middle of November, the Christmas markets begin and the Christmas decorations shine in every street. Besides, there is an ice-rink right at the Maritime Museum with a stunning view over the campus, River Thames to the City of London.
