Welcome to Surfers Paradise

4 weeks Australia. 4 weeks of living the best life.

Welcome to Surfers Paradise

It’s just crazy how time flies – it feels like yesterday, that I left Munich for my biggest adventure so far: 5 months in Australia. Since I was a little girl, I have always dreamt of visiting and living in this amazing country. I had decided to split this 22-hour flight into two. My first stop was Bangkok. Some of my study friends from Munich were there for their semester abroad, so I visited them for about 5 days. Retrospective this was one of the best decisions ever! Especially when leaving home for so long it’s good to not be completely alone the first few days, moreover I had a great time with great people in a great city.

Upon arriving at the airport in Sydney I got myself an Uber (quite often used here in Sydney) and drove to my University.
The International College of Management, located in Manly, a suburb of Sydney, is just what it’s called: International! Students from over 22 countries are studying and enjoying life here. Even though there are quite a loooot of Germans at ICMS, I tried to get connected to people from other countries as well, and I highly recommend that. I decided for living on campus and with that decision I decided for living in a castle – at least that’s what it looks like. I got a quite cute and small single room, sufficient for my time here. The only thing I can’t recommend about living on campus is the bathrooms, especially the one for girls is not that nice, but as they are renovating at the moment, it can only get better!

The first week in Manly was quite overwhelming. As soon as we arrived here, O-WEEK started – and you should definitely not miss this! I got to know so many people from all over the world in this week and had an amazing time going to the beach, getting to know the sports activities provided by the ICMS, Manly’s amazing bars and enjoying the sun. But my favourite activity in O-WEEK was definitely the colour run!

Right now the third week of university has just started and until now I can say that the workload during the semester is a lot more than at home – but at least you don’t have one final exam worth 100%, but 2-4 exams/assignments/quizzes per subject worth in between 25-40% of the total grade each. As I just have university on Tuesdays and Thursdays there’s a lot of free time which you can spend exploring Sydney, going to the Blue Mountains or even going on some trips with the other students!
When you have the possibility to spend such a long time in this amazing country you have to take the chance and travel as much as possible. We’ve already booked a trip to Melbourne and to Fiji, and I couldn’t be more excited.

I’m looking forward to the rest of the time here in Sydney, especially as it gets hotter every day now and summer’s just around the corner. See u soon.
